application process. Service Technician I - BMW of Chula Vista
Non-Exempt Job Summary: A Service Technician I assists experienced
Service Technician II with a variety of tasks, including routine
maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. This role is designed for
individuals passionate about automotive technology and committed to
learning the skills necessary to advance in the field. You will
receive on-the-job training, support, and guidance to develop your
technical expertise and contribute effectively to our service.
Essential Functions: Assist experienced service technician II with
routine maintenance and repair tasks. Observe and learn various
aspects of automotive repair, including diagnostics, parts
replacement, and system servicing. Perform basic repair and
maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake
servicing, and fluid checks. Follow instructions and procedures to
ensure quality workmanship. Help with the use of diagnostic tools
and equipment to identify vehicle issues. Learn to interpret
diagnostic data and assist in troubleshooting problems. Drive
vehicles to assess its performance after modification or
adjustments have been made. Move vehicles around the shop to
reposition them for further work or to make space for other
vehicles. Provide support in interacting with customers when
required. Communicate effectively to understand service needs and
relay information to technicians. Maintain a clean and organized
work environment. Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored
and in good working condition. Document all work performed,
including parts used and labor hours; maintain accurate records of
repairs and services. Follow all federal, state, and local
regulations governing automotive service and repair, including
Cal/OSHA. Work closely with other technicians, parts associates,
and service advisors to ensure efficient workflow. Participate in
team meetings and training sessions to stay updated on the latest
automotive technologies and repair techniques. Adhere to all safety
protocols and procedures—; including wearing protective gear and
equipment as required. Maintain a clean workspace. Maintain
satisfactory attendance. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Qualifications: Minimum
Qualifications: 2 years’ experience as an entry-level automotive
technician. Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record; If
currently out-of-state, a California driver’s license must be
obtained within 30 days of employment. Ability to lift up to 50
pounds. Willingness to participate in ongoing training and
professional development. Ability to perform all essential
functions of the job description. Preferred Qualifications: A
minimum of one year of driving experience. Completion of National
Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), a certified
technical training program in automotive technology at a high
school or at a community college. Mechanical knowledge and
understanding of vehicle systems. Good verbal communication skills
and the ability to work well within a team. Ability to understand
and follow written and verbal instructions. Strong attention to
detail and a commitment to performing high-quality. Ability to
follow instructions and work efficiently. Ability to work
efficiently and effectively in a team environment. Physical
Demands: Physical ability to stand, walk, and work in various
positions (e.g., bending, kneeling) for extended periods. Manual
dexterity to handle tools and small parts. Ability to work in a
fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Ability to frequently
lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able
to work in tight spaces. Frequently bend, stretch, kneel, and squat
to perform repairs and inspections. Environment/Noise: Work in
well-ventilated and well-lit repair shop. Exposure to hazardous
conditions and equipment that may result in minor injuries.
Frequent use of protective gear such as goggles and earplugs. Work
both indoors and outdoors, something in cramped spaces and awkward
positions. Regular exposure to contaminants such as antifreeze and
chemical degreasers. Work in close proximity to other technicians
